A Light That Shined Too Briefly

With hearts shattered and spirits aching, the community of Calhoun is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Evy Elizabeth Thompson, a radiant soul who went home to be with Jesus on July 10, 2025, at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville. Though her time on earth was far too short, Evy’s warmth, kindness, and faith-filled presence left an unforgettable mark on all who knew her.

Born on July 20, 2009, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Evy was joyfully embraced by her loving parents, Jeffery Scott and Sarah Elizabeth Caraway Thompson. She brought immeasurable joy and wonder into their lives and blossomed into a young woman who radiated love, hope, and purpose in every step she took.

A Beautiful Life of Faith, Passion, and Purpose

Evy was more than a daughter and sister—she was a bright light in her school, church, and local community. As a proud student at McLean County High School and a member of the Class of 2028, she excelled as a varsity cheerleader, lifting the spirits of teammates with her positivity and boundless energy. Her love for animals and agriculture found expression through her enthusiastic involvement in FFA. Every cause she touched and every group she joined was better because of her passion and leadership.

Deeply rooted in her Christian faith, Evy was an active member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Owensboro. Her commitment to the student ministry was evident in her joyful worship, kind-hearted service, and spiritual wisdom that surpassed her years. She lived for Christ with fearless love, often inspiring others to do the same.

Evy’s creativity had no limits. She channeled her vivid imagination through art and expressed her free spirit by exploring the outdoors. From crafting masterpieces to climbing trees barefoot, she embraced life with wonder. Her beloved cat, Junie, was more than a pet—it was a reflection of her tender, nurturing heart.

A Legacy Etched in Love and Laughter

Evy’s laugh was contagious, her humor delightfully quirky, and her heart full of compassion. Whether she was goofing off with her siblings, making funny videos with cousins, or simply dancing barefoot in the yard, Evy made every moment sparkle. Her memory will forever be cherished by her parents, Scott and Sarah; her siblings, Leland, John Eisley, and Livingston; grandparents, Connie Caraway, Ann and Herman Duncan, and Jeff Thompson; and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates, and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 11:00 A.M. at Bellevue Baptist Church in Owensboro, with burial to follow at Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church Monday evening and again Tuesday morning before the service.

Though the pain of losing Evy is overwhelming, her legacy of joy, courage, and faith will continue to shine. May we all carry her spirit forward by choosing kindness, living with purpose, and loving one another as she so beautifully did.
